During the last 15 years, I have been a legal partner for companies that work in innovation, high tech and digitization, developing their legal structures, drafting and reviewing contracts and other legal documents and acting as their legal representative in negotiations and if necessary, in court. I am also an outside legal counsel of an international consumer electronics company and have worked, on interim basis, as part of the legal department of various universities.
As a graduate of the Grotius post-doctoral specialization education Privacy, I provide legal training on data and privacy and compliance. The European data strategy requires compliance protocols and my work entails to create awareness on how companies should organize their infrastructure to abide that strategy.
I am a member of both the Dutch Association for Privacy Law (www.verenigingprivacyrecht.nl) and LES Benelux, a society for professionals and business people interested in licensing, the transfer of technology, and the commercialization of intellectual property rights (www.les-benelux.org).

The combination of law, technology and business has been my passion since I passed the bar, in 1992. Over the years, I have helped many high tech companies develop and grow their businesses by managing their legal risks, protecting their assets and supporting their deal-making, both as an in-house and an outside legal counsel.
My style is no-nonsense, concise, practical and always focused on the balance between risks and revenues. My clients describe me as a bridge-builder with an eye for people, interests and context, and able to get to the heart of the matter quickly.
I am a member and former board member of VIRA, a specialist association recognized by the Netherlands Bar Association for lawyers with proven knowledge and experience in the field of computer law (www.vira.nl) as well as a member of LES Benelux, a society for professionals and business people interested in licensing, the transfer of technology, and the commercialization of intellectual property rights (www.les-benelux.org).

As an experienced sparring partner of entrepreneurs and directors, I like to enable ambitious entrepreneurs to seize opportunities. As a legal advisor, for instance, I am often involved in setting up collaborations between companies and the development of new products. But I also like to help find solutions to difficult situations such as disappointing results or discussions with customers or employees.
In my approach, I always look for reasonableness, without losing sight of my client’s interests. I am committed, critical and communicate in a clear style.
I studied law at Maastricht University. I later successfully completed the vocational training course in law, the post-academic course in labour law at Erasmus University and the course in Intellectual Property at the Vrije Universiteit. In my career, I have acted as in-house lawyer and interim company lawyer for various large and medium-sized companies and institutions. As a result, I have gained extensive experience in, among others, the (high)tech sector and the manufacturing and food industry. I regularly give lectures on various legal topics.
I have an interest in other cultures and good international contacts. This helps me in negotiations with foreign parties and in international (arbitration) proceedings (e.g. in China).
